Atypique Voyages, the local bespoke travel agency in Asia
Tailor-made travel agency
Choosing a tailor-made travel agency makes it possible to create an itinerary tailored to your wishes, far from the classic tourist circuits. In Asia, this approach offers unique experiences, such as a night in a floating house or an immersion in a traditional village. Local travel designers plan each stage according to your interests, ensuring an authentic and personalized stay.
Our travel agency
Atypique Lanka was founded in 2012 by Chamika, a Sri Lankan who grew up in France, and Marjorie. From the very beginning, the agency has championed a different way of traveling: tailor-made trips, powerful experiences, encounters with local communities, and a selection of charming, high-quality accommodations.
In 2020, Atypique Voyages brought together Atypique Lanka, Atypique Vietnam, as well as getaways to the Maldives. A new name, but the same ambition: to help travelers discover a country differently, through authentic experiences and meaningful human encounters that stay with them.
A new chapter was written in 2025 with the arrival of Gauthier, a long-time expatriate in Indonesia. His expertise in tailor-made travel, shaped by his personal roots in Indonesia, strengthens the team and opens up new horizons.
The Indonesian archipelago then joined Atypique’s offering, in the same spirit: traveling differently, with attentive local support and a responsible approach.
Why choose a tailor-made trip in Asia?
A tailor-made trip to Asia stands out for its flexibility. Unlike standardized packages, it adapts to your wishes, your pace, and your needs. For example, a stay in Sri Lanka can include a hike through tea plantations, a stop at an ecolodge in the heart of the rice fields, a safari in a national park, or even a visit to a secluded Buddhist temple, depending on your expectations. Specialized agencies, like Atypique Voyages, spend a lot of time on the ground searching for new hidden gems and work with trusted local partners to offer activities off the beaten track.
This customization also extends to accommodation. At Atypique, we only offer what we know and what we love! In Vietnam, you can stay with locals in the Mekong Delta or opt for a boutique hotel in Hanoi. The travel designers fine-tune every detail, from transport to meals and activities, to minimize unforeseen events as much as possible. A tailor-made trip to Indonesia can thus combine deserted beaches in Lombok and volcanic hikes in Java, without wasting time on logistics.
Finally, this approach encourages responsible tourism. Committed agencies, like Atypique Voyages, follow very strict specifications, spend time raising their partners’ awareness of sustainability issues, and select service providers who respect the environment and local communities. For example, a trip to the Philippines can include a visit to a marine conservation project, while avoiding overcrowded areas.
Tailor-made travel in Asia: the must-sees
Asia is full of ideal destinations for a tailor-made trip. Sri Lanka, for example, wins visitors over with its varied landscapes: the beaches of Tangalle or Mirissa, national parks such as Yala or Wilpattu, and cultural sites like Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa or Anuradhapura. A trip to Sri Lanka can be organised around your passions, whether that’s safari, surfing or gastronomy. We live locally and have personally tested and approved everything we offer you!
Vietnam offers similar diversity. A tailor-made itinerary can begin in Hanoi, with a street-food tasting, then continue to Halong Bay for a private cruise. History lovers will enjoy Hoi An, while nature enthusiasts will prefer the rice terraces of Sapa. A trip to Vietnam lets you combine these experiences with no constraints.
Indonesia, with its 17,000 islands, is another flagship destination. Bali attracts visitors for its temples and rice terraces, but also for the devotion of its people and that uniquely special atmosphere. A trip to Bali can also include batik workshops or meetings with local artisans. Java, less touristy, offers treks on Mount Bromo, while Lombok appeals with its white-sand beaches. A trip to Java or a trip to Lombok offer more intimate alternatives.
The Maldives, often associated with luxury resorts, can also be discovered differently. A tailor-made trip to the Maldives can be done in a local guesthouse, without forgetting an excursion to observe dolphins. Finally, the Philippines, with its 7,000 islands, make it possible to create a unique itinerary, combining diving in Palawan with culture in the Visayas.
How to prepare a successful tailor-made trip?
The first step is to define your expectations. A tailor-made travel agency starts with an in-depth discussion to identify your interests, your budget and your constraints. We systematically suggest a call to get to know you and understand your wishes as well as possible. For example, if you want a trip to Ceylon, specify whether you prefer historical sites or natural parks, whether you’re more into sporty activities or pure relaxation… Travel designers use this information to propose a first draft itinerary, which you can then adjust. The key word for the Atypique team is “co-creation”.
Choosing local partners is crucial. A serious agency works with certified guides and accommodation selected for their quality. In Vietnam, for example, we can recommend a homestay in the north or an eco-responsible lodge in the delta. These partnerships guarantee authentic experiences, such as a cooking class with a local family or a hike guided by an expert.
Logistics are another key point. Transfers, train tickets or restaurant reservations are managed in advance to avoid any surprises. For example, a trip to Indonesia may require domestic flights between Bali and Komodo, which we organize for you. Finally, a pre-departure briefing prepares you for cultural specifics, such as dress codes in temples or local customs.
The budget varies depending on destinations and services. A tailor-made trip in Asia can cost between 2,000 and 5,000 euros per person for two weeks, depending on the level of comfort and the activities chosen. We will always provide you with a detailed quote. Some agencies offer flexible options, such as installment payments or last-minute adjustments.
Our responsible travel commitments
A committed tailor-made travel agency incorporates ethical criteria into its proposals. Atypique Voyages, for example, is Travelife certified, a label that guarantees sustainable practices. This translates into concrete choices, such as eco-certified accommodation or activities that support local communities. A trip to the Maldives can thus include a visit to a coral reef protection project.
The Atypique Foundation, created by the agency, funds local initiatives. For example, it supports a school or reforestation programs in Sri Lanka. These commitments make it possible to travel differently, by minimizing one’s environmental impact.
Responsible agencies also raise their clients’ awareness of sustainable actions. Before departure, they provide advice on reducing one’s carbon footprint, such as prioritizing public transport or avoiding single-use plastics. On site, they recommend local restaurants rather than international chains, or artisan shops rather than souvenir stores. These small actions make a difference, especially in fragile destinations like Bali, the Philippines, or Sri Lanka.
Finally, they avoid controversial activities, such as elephant rides or visits to unethical sanctuaries. Instead, they offer respectful alternatives, such as meeting with animal protection associations. These choices reflect a more conscious vision of tourism, where the traveler becomes an active participant in their stay.
FAQ about our travel agency specializing in Asia
What is the difference between a tailor-made trip and an organized tour?
A tailor-made trip is designed according to your wishes, with total flexibility regarding the stages, activities, and pace. For example, you can decide to spend three days in Bali’s rice paddies rather than just one day. An organized tour, on the other hand, follows a predefined itinerary, with fixed schedules and groups of travelers.
Tailor-made travel agencies, like Atypique Voyages, work with local or expat travel designers based on site to tailor every detail. All our trips start first with a call, a real conversation that helps build a connection and, above all, understand your wishes and needs so we can then put together the stay that truly suits you. This helps avoid tourist traps and favor authentic experiences, such as a night in a traditional village in Vietnam, a night in the trees in Sri Lanka, or a hike guided by a local in Java.
How much does a tailor-made trip to Asia cost?
The price of a tailor-made trip to Asia depends on several factors: duration, destinations, comfort level, and the activities you choose. For two weeks, expect between €2,000 and €5,000 per person. For example, a trip to Vietnam with mid-range accommodations and cultural activities will cost around €2,500, while a stay in the Maldives with luxury resorts can exceed €6,000 per week. Keep in mind, however, that all our stays are tailor-made, so we will adapt the program to your budget.
Agencies provide a detailed quote, including accommodations, transportation, meals, and activities, as well as our support throughout the planning process and the trip itself. If needed, we offer installment payment options or cancellation insurance. It is also possible to adjust the budget by choosing simpler accommodations or limiting paid excursions.
How to choose your tailor-made travel agency?
To choose a tailor-made travel agency, first check its ethical commitments. A responsible agency, like Atypique Voyages, should be certified by labels such as Travelife or be a member of a foundation dedicated to sustainable tourism. Sustainable tourism certification helps prove that the agency is genuinely committed to a sustainable approach and implements concrete actions, not just marketing promises. Also read traveler reviews to assess the quality of the services and the professionalism of the travel designers.
Give preference to agencies that work with local partners. For example, an agency specializing in travel in Sri Lanka like Atypique Lanka is based on site and personally knows all its local partners and service providers to organize off-the-beaten-track activities. Our travel designers, who are in charge of creating our travelers’ itineraries, are all based locally and know the field perfectly. Finally, speak with an advisor to test their responsiveness and their ability to understand your expectations. A good agency should provide a first draft of a personalized itinerary, modify it if needed, then validate it with the traveler before booking.
Which Asian destinations are best suited for a first tailor-made trip?
For a first tailor-made trip to Asia, choose destinations that are easy to access and offer variety. Sri Lanka is ideal: it combines beaches, culture and nature, with well-developed tourist infrastructure. A trip to Ceylon can include safaris, temple visits, walks through tea plantations and relaxing moments on the beach.
Vietnam is also an excellent option. It offers a wide diversity of landscapes, from the mountains in the north to the beaches in the south, via dynamic cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. A tailor-made trip to Vietnam lets you discover these contrasts at your own pace, with local guides to make exchanges easier.
How can you make sure your tailor-made trip is eco-friendly?
For an eco-responsible tailor-made trip, choose an agency committed to sustainable tourism. Check that it offers certified accommodations and that it has actually visited them, such as eco-lodges or local guesthouses. For example, a trip to Indonesia can include nights in Green Key-certified hotels, which limit their water and energy consumption, as well as small charming properties that employ people from nearby villages, thus allowing tourism revenue to trickle down within society.
Also prioritize activities that support local communities. A responsible agency avoids excursions that exploit animals or local populations. Instead, it offers workshops with artisans, visits to conservation projects, or meals in family-run restaurants. Finally, educate yourself about sustainable practices, such as avoiding single-use plastics or respecting local cultural norms.
